All you need is a waffle maker, and you won’t really break the bank, the price range being more than affordable.
The waffle machine will end up being a very good investment in the long run, trust me on this. Oh, also worth mentioning that the waffles are ready in under 30 minutes. Brilliant! Breakfast is ready just in time!
From sweet to savoury, simple or as fancy as one wishes, waffles are ever so popular, and not only with kids. Along with pancakes/crêpes, they will always be close to one’s heart, for some obviously delicious reasons. I remember as a child having a not-so-fancy old-fashioned waffle maker that had to be heated on the gas stove and had some pretty heavy handles.
I must say, these modern electric waffle makers are a life saver, all you have to do is switch them on, and job done. Mum used to make a huge batch at once and sandwich the waffles together using chocolate filling. They were sheer goodness!
I am sure l’ll get to make waffles again and very soon, l must try mum’s version too, but for now l’ll share the recipe for these super simple vanilla & cinnamon waffles. They are amazingly yummy just sprinkled with some powdered sugar, or with a generous dollop of Greek yogurt, a drizzle of honey and some fresh fruit like bananas and clementines. Feel free to use any other fruit, cream, maple syrup and so on.
It’s one of those spices that can always be found in my kitcken cupboard, like the never missing salt and pepper. So, are you giving the a go? The heart shape makes them ideal if you want to surprise your loved one with a delicious batch of waffles? Breakfast in bed perhaps?

These heart-shaped cinnamon waffles are the perfect treat when you want to indulge yourself without spending money on a ridiculously posh and equally expensive breakfast/brunch in a 5 star restaurant.
- 200 g plain flour
- 1 egg
- 180 ml full-fat milk
- 50 g butter
- 50 g caster sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/3 tsp vanilla extract
- a pinch of salt
Melt the butter and allow it to cool.
In a large bowl, beat the egg slightly, add the milk and whisk well.
Sift the flour and add it together with the salt, baking powder, vanilla extract, cinnamon, vanilla powder and butter.
Mix well to get a lump-free and pretty sticky batter.
Preheat the waffle maker and brush it with a bit of oil or butter.
If you use wooden sticks as handles, place them on the waffle maker before adding the batter.
Depending on the waffle maker you use, you will need about a big tablespoon of batter per waffle.
They should be ready in 3-4 minutes.
