Prawn Burgers made with delicious grilled prawns / shrimp served on a bed of salad, avocado and tomatoes, drizzled with a nice Marie Rose sauce, and of course, delicious burger buns - a delightful recipe for the grilling season. Quick and super easy to make, these burgers are simply delicious!
Spring is finally here, and with the nicer weather and longer days, our meals change too. While comfort food can be enjoyed no matter the season, at this time of the year we start thinking of picnics, bbq, and just lighter dishes that require minimal prep.
And there is nothing simpler, nor more delicious than enjoying a good old burger with your favourite side dish. I absolutely love a regular beef burger, especially when all there is to do is grill it, throw some nice salad bits in a bun, and that's your meal ready.
But how about a fancier burger? Prawns / shrimp are delicious cooked in any possible way, but they also make delicious burgers that are ready in no time. No need for complicated marinades or anything like that, all we need is a good sauce to accompany it, and job done!
This prawn dish can also be enjoyed as a prawn cocktail, rather than a burger, my classic prawn cocktail recipe is pretty similar, but low carb.

Ingredients needed
- prawns (shrimp)
- ketchup
- mayonnaise
- lemon juice
- dried Italian herbs
- mixed salad leaves
- tomatoes
- avocado
- burger buns
Step-by-step photos and instructions
To grill the prawns I used an electric George Foreman Grill, but anything can do, even a grilling pan on the hob or use you oven's grilling setting.
- grill the prawns until no longer pink - they are ready in about 2 minutes - do keep an eye on them, as they can become tough very quickly if overcooked
- slice the burger in half, arrange a bed of salad, avocado cut into cubes and tomato slices, and top them with the grilled prawns
- drizzle the sauce over, and that's the burger ready!
How to make Marie Rose sauce
The Marie Rose sauce works amazingly well with seafood, and it's also known as a prawn cocktail sauce. It's super simple to make it at home, and if you have ketchup and mayo, that's pretty much it.
The ingredients I used for the sauce:
- mayonnaise
- ketchup
- lemon juice
- Italian herbs
Mix all the ingredients together, and that's it! No burger will ever be bland with this delicious dressing!
Expert tips
This yummy burger can be enjoyed as a healthy work lunch too, since it's ready in well under 10 minutes, and it's so easy to put together.
Prawns can be swapped for scallops or langoustines, which can be cooked in exactly the same way, the cooking time will vary slightly though. Or they can also be pan-fried, I have these delicious recipes here that would work well with the burgers too: Pan-Fried King Scallops and Breaded Scampi (Best Langoustine Recipe).
If you use ready-cooked prawns, there is no need to grill them, so just add them to the burger, and that's all. The the prawns are frozen, thaw them beforehand.
Add any other bits of salad you like: arugula salad, baby spinach leaves or lettuce work really well too. If you don't have avocados, you could also go for gherkins or any other pickled veggies. And there you have it, a fantastic recipe to enjoy all summer long!
