Halloween Witches' Brooms Puff Pastry Recipe with Nutella, a last-minute spooky sweet treat for kids and grown-ups too. They are incredibly easy to make, using just 4 simple ingredients, and are guaranteed to go down a treat with everyone. Flaky golden puff pastry, rich and indulgent chocolate hazelnut spread and very little prep, this is the kind of treat kids will love to help baking this Halloween!

Shops might be able to dazzle us with the endless supply of Halloween treats, but baking our own is always so much more fun, and I dare day, they will always taste so much better.
These witches' brooms are a great Halloween activity to get the kids involved in, there is very little prep involved, and very little effort, and although I listed 4 ingredients, you can actually make these cute witches' brooms with only puff pastry and nutella, and nothing else.
Brushing the pastries with egg wash adds a lovely golden touch though, so I do recommend using it for aesthetic purpose. Without the egg wash, the pastries will still bake nicely, but the golden colour won't be as shiny.
The icing sugar is totally optional here, I dusted a bit of it on the brooms just to add another sweet touch. The nutella is indeed sweet enough, but I think the puff pastry does benefit for some extra sweetness, given that it doesn't have any sugar added to it.
These Halloween pastries are ready in just 30 minutes, which makes them ideal as a last-minute treat for your Halloween party. They are spooky and cute at the same time, and so delicious!

Expert tips
I used ready-rolled puff pastry, if you use frozen puff pastry, make sure it's completely thawed before using it, but it's still cold. Warm puff pastry is hard to handle, and won't create the lamination we want from it.
Do not spread a thick layer of nutella onto the pastry, it will be messy, and the puff pastry might not bake as well, so you can end up with raw pastry in the middle.
I made the broomsticks using puff pastry, but you can also use pretzel sticks if you wish, for a some nice crunch to contrast with the flakiness of the pastry and the smoothness of the spread.
Nutella can be swapped for any other chocolate hazelnut spread, biscoff spread, peanut butter or any other nut spread, or a combo of more spreads. You can also dust the brooms with a pinch of cinnamon for a Fall touch.

Notes
- I worked with ready-rolled puff pastry for this recipe, but if you use frozen pastry, make sure it's fully thawed, yet still cold. Warm pastry is tricky to handle, and it won't puff up as well.
- When spreading nutella, go for a thin, even layer. Too much nutella will make the pastry messy to roll, and might prevent it from baking properly.
- I shaped my broomsticks entirely from puff pastry, but you can also use pretzel sticks as handles.
