Chocolate and Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats made with only 4 ingredients and no refined sugar added, a healthy and utterly delicious snack for all ages. These no-bake squares are made with crunchy peanut butter, dark chocolate, maple syrup and rice krispies, and are a great afterschool treat, or even a snack on the go.
When it comes to snacks for my kids, I always go for the healthier options, no matter if it's an afterschool snack, or a sweet treat after their meals. Although these rice krispie treats can 100% be enjoyed by grown-ups too.
Chocolate and peanut butter are a match made in heaven, they simply work together so well. My chocolate peanut butter crunch bars are similar treats, but instead of rice krispies, they are loaded with nuts and seeds, which makes them another great snack option.
On their own, rice krispies aren't that much of a filling breakfast, but mix them with something else, and it's a game changer. And these rice krispie squares can also be enjoyed for breakfast too.

Ingredients used
- crunchy peanut butter - gives the treats extra texture and amazing taste, although it can be swapped for smooth peanut butter if you wish
- dark chocolate - the darker, the healthier, especially that the treats get sweetened by maple syrup for a sweeter touch
- maple syrup - adds a sweet and cozy touch
- rice krispies - plain rice krispies are the best
Easy swaps
My first choice is dark chocolate for added goodness, but you can totally replace it with milk or white chocolate for a more indulgent touch.
Maple syrup can be swapped for honey, golden syrup, agave necatar or any other syrup of your choice - even a combo of them.
Plain rice krispies can be swapped for chocolate rice krispies if you wish, but I find that the regular ones good enough.
Step-by-step photos and instructions
- break the chocolatet bar into pieces and add them to a bowl set over a pot of simmering water
- allow the chocolate to melt completely over a low heat
- in a bowl, add the rice krispies, maple syrup, melted chocolate and warmed peanut butter
- mix everything quickly, then transfer the mixture to a square baking tray lined with non-stick paper (mine is 20cm wide, about 8 inches)
- refrigerate for at least an hour before slicing
Expert tips
I find that if the peanut butter is cold, it makes the warm melted chocolate harden too quickly, so the rice kripie mixture could go lumpy and the ingredients wouldn't mix together well.
To avoid that from happening, just warm up the peanut butter slighly, just enough to be able to stir it, this can be done in the microwave or in a pan set over a low heat.
After slicing, it's a good idea to keep the squares refrigerated if they are not consumed straight away, to prevent the chocolate from warming up and making the treats sticky.
