- 2 cups rice krispies
- 1 cup crunchy peanut butter
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 bar dark chocolate ( 100 g, 3 oz)
Break the chocolate bar into pieces and add them to a bowl set over a pot of simmer water.
Allow it to melt completely over a low heat.
In a mixing bowl, add the rice krispies, peanut butter, maple syrup and melted chocolate, and mix well.
Transfer the mixture to a square tray lined with non-stick paper ( my tray is 20 cm / 8 inches wide).
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before slicing.
- I find that if the peanut butter is cold, it makes the warm melted chocolate harden too quickly, so the rice kripie mixture could go lumpy and the ingredients wouldn't mix together well.
- To avoid that from happening, just warm up the peanut butter slighly, just enough to be able to stir it, this can be done in the microwave or in a pan set over a low heat.
- After slicing, it's a good idea to keep the squares refrigerated if they are not consumed straight away, to prevent the chocolate from warming up and making the treats sticky.
