Grilled Steak Bites and Gnocchi Skewers served with tzatziki, a delicious BBQ recipe for all the meat lovers. Perfectly-cooked beef that melts in your mouth, and soft gnocchi make the perfect combination for a fantastic summer meal. Why not treat your dad this Father's Day to a proper steak feast? It's super quick and easy too.
If you are intrigued by the idea of grilling gnocchi, I must say, I was too. Quite sceptical at first as well, as I didn't think the gnocchi would be proper cooked. The only way I ever cooked gnocchi was boiling in water until they popped to the surface for a nice and soft texture.
But grilling them is such a game changer. It really works, and you get the same soft gnocchi that you love. The only difference is that you don't have to cook them separately, they can cook at the same time with the steak bites. Isn't that amazing? And pretty clever too.
Now steak, who doesn't like that?! It might be considered a "man food", but I absolutely love it too. My Garlic Butter Steak Bites are one of my favourite way of cooking it, but grilling is such a great way, especially in summer, the season of bbqs and family gatherings.
And if you want to impress the men in your life with a nice Father's Day meal, this is guaranteed to be a huge success: the meat, gnocchi and sauce work so beautifully together, absolutely everyone will love it.

How to make gnocchi skewers with steak bites
There is very little preparation here, just cut up the steak into bite-sized chunks, and marinate them for 10-15 minutes. To make the marinade you need: olive oil, soy sauce, garlic, salt and pepper. That's it. Mix them all up, and coat the beef cubes in it.
Once the marinating time is over, thread the beef cubes and gnocchi on a skewer ( alternating for a nicer look), and grill for 2 minutes or until the beef is cooked to your liking.
NOTE! Make sure not to over cook the beef, as it will not be as soft, but rather chewy.
I used a George Foreman grill, but a regular bbq grill or even a grilling pan can work very well too. The good think about the electric grill is that the gnocchi cooks even better in the juices released by the meat.
How to make the tzatziki sauce
This sauce is the perfect accompaniment to any steak, cooked and shaped in any way. It's so refreshing, and the mint kick brings extra flavour to an already perfect dish. The ingredients needed for the sauce: plain yogurt, cucumber, olive oil, garlic and mint, plus the good old salt and pepper.
- grate the cucumber, and use you hands to lightly squeeze the excess liquid
- add it to the yogurt, and mix in the other ingredients
- give it a good stir, and that's the sauce done
Expert tips
These skewers or kabobs/kebabs can't be simpler than that. I would recommend using fresh gnocchi that can be found it the refrigerating area in supermarkets, as these are easier/better for this recipe. The dry ones might be harder to cook, and to thread on the skewers too due to their crumbly texture.
Also, it is best to use a steak fillet rather than the stewing beef cubes, as those could be pretty chewy and would need a longer cooking method rather than grilling.
You can also add any veggies you like to these skewers, peppers of any colours, tomatoes, zucchini/courgette, aubergine/eggplant are a few good choices. Other than that, enjoy these beauties, they really are delicious! Happy Father's Day!
