Oven Baked Chicken Drumsticks with a touch of garlic and paprika, a simple recipe that goes down well with the whole family. The chicken has crispy skin, but the inside is moist and juicy without being greasy, making dinner time as easy as you can get.
Chicken drumsticks are not only delicious and easy to cook, but also a lot cheaper and usually sold in a bulk, which means you can feed even a large family pretty easily without breaking the bank.
The take-away fried chicken might sound like a more tempting option, but how about we cook a way healthier, but equally yummy meal with a lot less oil and no frying whatsoever?
You can still get crispy chicken skin even in the oven, and the meat is succulent and so good. You can make these chicken legs are simple or as fancy as you like. But, you know me already, I like going to easy but tasty way.
So for my oven baked chicken drumsticks recipe I opted for some simple seasoning of garlic granules, paprika, salt and pepper, and that was definitely the winning option, just like with my Baked Chicken Wings which have the same sort of seasoning.

Ingredients needed to make oven baked chicken drumsticks
- chicken drumsticks - I prefer to leave the skin on, as this prevents the meat from drying out in the oven
- vegetable oil - it helps stick the seasoning on the drumsticks
- salt & pepper
- paprika - I chose regular sweet paprika, but smoked or hot paprika are also an option
- garlic granules
Step-by-step photos and instructions
- preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees Fahrenheit)
- add the drumsticks to a bowl together with the rest of the ingredients
- toss everything well to coat the drumsticks with the seasoning mixture
- arrange the drumsticks on an oven rack placed over a baking tray so that the grease released from the chicken doesn't mess the oven
- bake for 30 minutes, flip the drumsticks onto the other side, then increase the temperature to 220 degrees (425 Fahrenheit) for a further 15 minutes
Expert tips
I absolutely love this chicken recipe, the meat simply falls off the bones. Increasing the oven temperature ensures the skin crisps up nicely after all the fat is melted.
Having the drumsticks placed over a baking tray lined with kitchen foil means that all the fat can drip in the tray, we remove the foil, and there is no mess whatsoever.
If the chicken legs are baked in a dish rather than on a rack, all the fat released will stay in the dish, making the chicken rather oily.
