Mini Sausage Rolls

Mini Sausage Rolls, a delicious appetizer or snack for all occasions. They are super easy to make using shop-bought sausagemeat and puff pastry, with a sprinkle of sesame and poppy seeds. These bites are super popular with all ages, and make the ideal snack for any party, celebration or picnic.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick sausagemeat ( 500 g, 2.1 lb)
  • 1 puff pastry
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoon poppy seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (390 Fahrenheit, 180 fan oven).
  • Roll the puff pastry and place the sausage meat stick in the middle.
  • Roll the pastry over the meat, and use a sharp knife to cut out the excess pastry, so there is only one layer of pastry all around the sausage meat roll.
  • Cut the roll into mini rolls of about 3cm (1.1 inches) thickness - I got 10 mini rolls.
  • Beat the egg well, and brush each roll with it.
  • Sprinkle sesame and poppy seeds over each roll, and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden and the meat is cooked through.
  • Serve the rolls either hot or cold.

Notes

  • If you use regular sausages instead of sausagemeat, simply squeeze the sausage meat out of the skin, and shape everything into a large sausage like the ready-made sausagemeat stick I used.
  • If you do not have poppy and/or sesame seeds, not to worry, the rolls will still taste delicious without, it's more a matter of aesthetic I guess.
  • You do not need to cook the sausagemeat before adding it to the pastry, it goes in raw - it does have time to cook perfectly well in the oven.
