- 500 g plain flour
- 475 ml buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (390 Fahrenheit)
Sift the flour into a large bowl and add the salt and bicarb of soda.
Mix them well, then pour in the buttermilk.
Use your hands to bring everything together quickly into a large bowl.
Use a sharp knife to cut the dough ball into half, then into quarter, and each quarter into half again to end up with 8 small balls.
Arrange the balls onto 2 baking trays lined with non-stick paper, dust them with flour and cut a cross on the top of each ball.
Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and when you tap on the bottom of a roll it sounds hollow.
