Ingredients

  • 4 apples
  • 6 tablespoon mincemeat
  • 150 g butter
  • 150 g flour
  • 50 g oats
  • optional - 50 g sugar ( I find that the filling is sweet enough, and did not add any sugar to my topping, but granulated sugar can be used if wished to)

Instructions

  • Butter an ovenproof dish.
  • Peel, core and chop the apples, and add them to the dish together with the mincemeat.
  • Mix well to get the apples fully coated in the mincemeat.
  • Melt the butter and allow it to cool slightly.
  • In a bowl, add the flour, oats, melted butter and sugar if used.
  • Mix to get a lumpy mixture.
  • Top the apple and mincemeat with the flour topping, and bake at 190 degrees Celsius (375 Fahrenheit) for 35 minutes until golden and the filling is bubbling hot.

    • If you'd like to see the ingredients listed in cups and ounces, please check the US Customary Link.
    • Also, the amount of ingredients changes depending on the servings, so click on the number listed to change it to the number you prefer.
  • I find that melting the butter helps massively with a much better crumble topping. My way to go used to be rubbing the cold butter with the flour to make breadcrumbs, but I find that you get a deeper shade of golden and a much crumbly texture when the butter is melted.
  • Plus, it also slightly reduces the baking time - I used to have to bake the crumble for ages, whereas now it's ready in 35 minutes maximum.
