Mini Puff Pastry Sausage Rolls and a fabulous filling of ground turkey, cranberries and sweet potato, an impressive bite-sized party appetizer for a crowd. A lot lighter than the traditional sausage rolls, but so flavourful and easy to make. These turkey sausage rolls are great served either cold or hot.

In the UK, sausage rolls are a big favourite when it comes to party food for any kind of celebrations. The most popular filling is the pork one, but how about making the nation’s favourite bites a lot less heavy?

And with a seasonal flavour too, which makes these puff pastry sausage rolls the ideal finger food for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you have fussy eaters, sneaking in some sweet potato is just the way to go (little ones won’t even know).

Now, not everybody likes cranberries, even the dried ones have a bif of that sharp sour taste, but but they make the perfect match with the sweet potatoes.

After making the turkey sausage rolls a few times, I have fallen in love with them, and I make them pretty often now. All you need is some puff pastry, turkey mince (ground turkey), a sweet potato, and a handful of dried cranberries.

This is the very basic recipe, from here you can add the herbs of your choice, I actually really like the Italian herbs for these sausage rolls, they go very well with the turkey.

If you want to top them with seeds, you can choose from poppy seeds, sesame seeds caraway seeds, anything that you like.

Making them is super easy, but I would strongly advise you buy the block puff pastry, rather than the ready-rolled one.

The ready-rolled puff pastry is way too thin, and it’s quite difficult to roll and cut the turkey sausage rolls. You also have to work pretty quickly, while the puff pastry is still cold, once it warms up, things become pretty messy when you roll.

Now, when you use the block puff pastry, you don’t need to roll it too thick though, but just a bit thicker than the ready-rollled one. I do like the ready-rolled puff pastry, it saves time, and it’s convenient price-wise too.

I made lots of recipes with it, from Cheese, Onion and Potato Pasty, to Puff Pastry Pinwheels with Ham and CheeseSpinach Pinwheels with Ricotta or Sweet Potato & Beef Empanadas with Puff Pastry.

But for this particular recipe, it’s just not quite the best. Even with the block one, flour the work surface generously, so that it does not stick, it will make things a lot easier when you roll too.

And that’s all you have to be careful about, the rest is easy peasy.
