My ham cheese toastie has suddenly become my favourite breakfast . It’s so delicious, filling, and super easy to make.
It happens sometimes that I become so fond of a certain food that I tend to have it over and over again until I start hating it. Although, if l allow a considerable break, I may like it again. I so hope it won’t happen this time that I cannot possibly eat my toastie, as I just love it. Who doesn’t like a yummy breakfast to gather energy for the day?
In the UK and not only, sandwiches are so popular. No mess, no fuss, easy breakfast and lunch, especially for working people. No wonder why sandwich shop businesses are so successful. In cities at least, you have sandwich shops one next to another almost, with massive amounts of sandwiches being bought every day.
You will surely know what I am taking about if you happened to go out at lunch time and had to face a massive queue in every single food shop. And they are not that cheap, really. Good ones could cost you up to £4, which is quite ridiculous, if you ask me. So why not make one at home and pack it with you at work?
I do prefer toasties though, I love their crispiness, so comforting and delicious. Cheese ones are the best, there is nothing tastier than the chewy melted cheese. Only writing about it makes me hungry, I could do with another toastie right now 🙂 I used gherkins for this toastie, but any other pickle would do. Funny how with pickles I have a love and hate relationship, depending on my mood.
To make this toastie you can either use a sandwich toaster, if you have one, or the traditional way of frying it in a pan. I guess that having a sandwich toaster saves you both time and headaches. More breakfast ideas? How about a nice omelet? Or perhaps some scrambled eggs? Let’s start!
Ham cheese toastie with pickles, a delicious and filling breakfast that can be enjoyed on the go too.
- 4 slices of wholemeal bread
- 10 g of butter
- 2 slices of ham
- 2 slices of Cheddar cheese
- 2 gherkins
Use a knife to lightly spread the butter on both sides of the bread slices.
Lay the cheese, ham and sliced gherkins over one slice of bread, then place the other slice on top. Repeat with the second toastie.
Place in a preheated sandwich toaster for a few minutes, until golden-brown and crispy.
Alternatively, heat up a frying pan and fry the toasties on one side at a time.
